Name: Bill Alaimo
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
Occupation: Retired Construction Executive
Current Garage Inhabitants: 1986 944 Turbo, 2008 997 Carrera Cabriolet, 2023 Tesla Model 3

Ownership of my first Porsche car involved some effort. In 1983 I took my wife to the dealership to get approval for a new 911 SC. The response was "No, where do I put my shopping?": cry: In 1985, I approached my wife again "Honey, let's go to the Porsche dealership, they now make a stationwagen" after she gave the large rear hatch area a once over, SUCCESS!! and we were the proud owners of an early 85 944.

Now that she was on board and loved the make, 2002 purchased the 944 Turbo, 2009 a 944 S2 Cabriolet, and finally she kept asking in 2018 "what is this Carrera?" so, hint taken, and the 2008 Carrera Cabriolet replaced the S2 Cabriolet.

From time to time, I still think fondly of that 911 SC of my teen year dreams that I missed out on. But then, I still have that wonderful wife by my side. And if not for my 944 turbo and hearing of a 944 get together in NorCal, I would not have met Tom or Crazy Eddy! So, all is good and I am now satisfied to be that old guy in the old Porsche.
Sounds familiar...be careful though as your wife might develop a longing for Panamera Turismo Sport, or a dp44 conversion which would be a rare find.
Thanks for joining and here's hoping your wife stays on board with Porsche.

Hello! I'm new to this forum, but not forums in general. I'm trying to get motivated to resurrect my '88 944 and saw a post on reddit about this place (and the timing belt tension tool) so figured I'd drop in.

Welcome Fisch, Jay, Ryan and Bill , you will find this is a great site for info and camaraderie!

Bill, I will have to add that my story with sports cars and my wife of 49 years somewhat mirrors yours , though we were discussing getting into RX7s ( we actually had two when my son was born ). Amazing how an understanding wife can make one's addictive automotive habit seem like a disease that really does not need a cure, ha!

Welcome aboard Jay. Very happy to have you here. I did an article interviewing RJ Wilmoth in Panorama (issue 705) as part of the PCA's 60th anniversary celebration. Pretty fascinating to hear so much about the early days of the gripe group, etc. --would welcome anything you wanted to share here, as well as more direct plugs for your books! Welcome! --Tom

P.s. My first Porsche was an 85 3.2 Carrera, Prussian Blue. Sold it for $22k with very low miles.
