I thought I probably should start documenting this build since I'm a year in and and these kind of builds aren't as common anymore. I bought a 1990 S2 around 3 years ago after a long search. I probably should have a bought a turbo straight up but they are rare here and expensive for one in good condition. I looked into going with an NA build to start with but decided the return on investment wasn't really worth it so instead I'm spending a ridiculous amount of money on a building a 968 Turbo motor.

Build so far
- New 968 block and head
- S2 Crank (Balanced)
- Mahle Motorsport Pistons (9.0:1)
- Molnar Rods
- ACL Rod and Glyco Mains Bearings
- Stock 968 Cams with Variocam
- Custom one piece SS Valves and Catcams/PAC springs
- Voodoo Stage 3 6062 Turbo + 3" dump
- Fabspeed 3" Exhaust
- Hayward Performance Manifold
- TTV Flywheel, KEP Stage 3 Pressure plate + Sachs Motorsport clutch disc
- Injector Dynamics 1050xds Injectors
- Radium FPR and damper
- Bosch 200 fuel pump
- Link G4X Xtremex Standalone + Razr PDM
- VAG COP Ignition
- Bosch Motorsport 68mm E-throttle & 997 pedal (Cruise + Traction control)
- Ecumaster EGT to CAN, Spartan 3 WBO2 + Electronic boost solenoid

To do
- Torque tube rebuild
- LSD installed into S2 Transaxle or 01E upgrade (depending on final power)

Thank you for documenting and good luck on this project. I have a spare 968 motor that I’m still deciding on what to do with, so I’ll be watching this project closely 🍿

Is your 968 block brand new or refreshed?

What is the redline you anticipate for your motor?

The block is brand new, Ill be sticking with the stock redline for now, not much point raising it with stock cams

You should 100% go with an 01E.
I'm going to fab and swap one into my S2 this summer.

That will be the long term plan, hopefully the S2 trans will hold 400-500hp for while, I may limit boost in 1st to protect it

Nice ECU choice. I’m running the same in my mostly stock 951. I like it a lot, very good GUI.

Regarding the 997 pedal (Cruise + Traction control) - source?

Strangely enough, I've put together a similar setup.

Looking good.
Do you plan to run it with S/S2 cams first? Just asking as I see an S/S2 cam cover on the installed motor.

What type of alternator is that? A friend is building a 3L 16V turbo engine at the moment too but his turbo is so large that it will not fit with the stock alternator and needs a smaller one like yours.

If you haven't already I suggest you have the TTV flywheel lightened as it's as heavy as a dead horse out of the box, 7kg like the stock flywheel. IMO this is not suited for such an engine. At least I hated it so much that I had an extra one lightened to get back some proper response.

Looks like you are based down under?

The Link ECU with be handing the cruise and traction, I've wired in the ABS speed sensors for each wheel, cruise and clutch and brake pedal switches.

I had to make up a slightly elaborate bracket to make it work

I'm wiring up ECU and all of the engine bay mods except the turbo on the Stock S2 motor. That way we can get decent tune done before breaking in the new motor. I don't want to be washing the cylinder walls down with fuel while the rings are bedding in and we can fine tune above atmospheric later.

The Nissan Quest from LA Electrical from ebay, I looked high and low for an other alternator that would work its by far the best fit without losing capacity.

TBH I hadn't thought about lightening the flywheel, I probably should have done it before I had the motor balanced but Ill have a look into it.

Sure am, based in Perth, the most isolated city in the world, shipping is killing me.
