Hey everyone.
Thought it might be a good idea to have a thread about any ideas or suggestions, anyone has for things they would like to see and keep it all in one spot.
A couple of forums I am on have the ability to like someones post, which I think is great, although not sure how easy it would be for Tom to do here.
Obviously this ones up to individuals but its great to see peoples real first name in their signature and makes it feel a bit more like a family when we can address each other personally
Suggestions on improving the Forum

Awesome post. Thank you. I'll make it a stickie once I figure out how to do that I've had a few people suggest a like button, so am exploring options for that...
Bring on the ideas!
In the meantime, could so,done send me a private message? I want to confirm that's all working as expected....

I've added a 'thumbs-up' button for posts. I may be able to hack that to say "like" instead of "thanks" but wanted to try out that patch first to see if it's roughly what you were suggesting?

How about an old school, big single chat room?
This could bring some interactivity to compensate for the communication lag of a classic forum format without the need to use peer-to-peer messaging apps.

I think I can do a chat room. Will poke around and see about that.
Also looking to add more smilies.
One question, are you all getting emails from the board when someone else responds to a thread you've posted in? If so, from what address? If not, try turning on email notifications in your user control panel and let me know if it's working...

Are you getting email notifications now, when someone first replies to a thread you posted in? Fairly sure I fixed that, but would be good to get real world confirmation.

If I hacked it as intended, by default you should now: (1) be "subscribed" to any thread you start or otherwise post in, and (2) get email notifications when people first reply to your 'subscribed" threads. That means you should now be getting email notices when people first reply to any thread you've posted in. At least that's how I hope it is working and how it works on all the big forums. You should have gotten an email notice about this reply for example. Did you?Thom wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 5:59 amI can't see this exact option in the menu :

In the user options you posted above, you can modify what happens when "Someone replies to a topic to which you are subscribed" if you want to over-ride the default emails. Make sense? And, if you want to subscribe or unsubscribe to threads manually, you can check/uncheck the box at the bottom of the thread, shown below....

You got the email notice because I changed the default settings so that you become "subscribed" to any thread you post in. Once subscribed, you'll get one email to alerting you to any/all replies in that thread since the last time you visited. That's how all the big forums seem to work. If you want, you can unsubscribe to any particular thread using that tab in the screenshot I posted above; or you can adjust your defaults in the user control panel to specify when (if ever) you get emails.
